Humans Being - Embodied Movement Meditation with Cathy Ryan

Anchored in the Unknown (OF)
Anchored in the Unknown

The Floor is Open….

It’s all unknown…what do we know?

Using a set of physical, emotional and mindful anchors or tools from which to explore our moving selves, we will use the embodied movement practice that is Open Floor to see what we find out about ourselves as moving, relational, creative beings.

How can we anchor ourselves in the one thing we know for sure?

That we are here in a moving, alive, sensate body.

When we don’t truly know what’s coming next…what anchors do we have?

This particular workshop will focus on this question through an exploration of our bodies, hearts and selves to the physical space around us – the room we find ourselves in, the people we find ourselves with, how we feel about that, how it moves in us, how it can rest in us.

Our exploration will be supported by the dynamic movement practice that is Open Floor. We will move to all kinds of music, inquiries, reflection and simple awareness meditation practice.

You are welcome, come as you are…

This group counts for pre requisite hours towards the Open Floor International teacher training

BODYMAPS (5R)

The body is a landscape full of moving turns and directions.
Some of them we know, some of them we think we know, some of them we have no idea they're there let alone where they'll take us.
This workshop is a moving exploration of what we may discover in these landscapes. Focusing on the body parts and the map of the 5 Rhythms® we will enter the realms of our moving bodies and see what unfolds:

Following the feet as they invite the body to explore what's to be found in the rhythm of Flowing.

The hips into the pulse and rhythm of our moving hearts in Staccato.

The head and spine deep into our intuitive, wild and creative mind in Chaos.

The hands through the veils and colours of our mysterious and unique dancing souls in Lyrical.

And our breath into the full and moving presence of our whole being in Stillness.

This workshop is suitable for all.

Bare Bones (OF)

This workshop will take you on travels through the physical terrain of your own body, with the compass of the Open Floor Core Movement Principles and the torchlight of your own curiosity.

A foundation for all the places the Open Floor practice may take you.

Moving into a deep and rich sensate exploration of physical presence and mobility whatever your age, shape, size or gender, we develop the physical ability to be aware of what is arising and the skills to articulate ourselves as complex human beings living in a multi-dimensional world.

Bare Bones is a reminder of the possibility of being fully present when we marry sensate awareness with mindful awareness.

Through the Open Floor Core Movement Principles we will explore the domain, stretch, reach, sway, turn and arc of our body in movement.

There will be time and space given to moving and being with what we may find in this simple and profound exploration of our physical body in motion.

Concerto, Ongoing Group 2016 (OF)

Concerto will be a creative exploration through OF movement practice, music, community and commitment, a dive into 5 differently themed weekends culminating in Humans Being where we will look at the nature of presence and turning up as we are…

Bare Bones:

A dive into the richness, beauty and stories of  our moving articulate body through some of the core movement principles of Open Floor practice, our own muscles, bones, sensate physical being.

Anchored in the Unknown:

Following and including this level of physical embodiment, we will see what we find out about ourselves as moving, relational, creative beings. How can we anchor ourselves in the one thing we know for sure?   That we are here in a moving, alive, sensate body and we don’t truly know what’s coming next…

What a Shame:                                                                                                                         We are extraordinary creatures, full of emotions, thoughts, creativity, movement, love, longing and sticky bits of mess. Toxic shame is one of the places that leads us into disconnect and this weekend we will explore its role in our emotional landscapes. Paradoxically, often when we move what it is we're hiding, it brings us straight into connection with others. We begin to see each other and recognise ordinary and extraordinary, tender, vital parts of ourselves…

Libido Fundamentals:                                                                                                                                   As our hearts and bodies awaken through the movement meditation practice, our sexual energy also begins to stir. Our generative, sexual energy - our Libido - is an essential part of our body’s natural expression, complicated one moment, ecstatic the next. Libido Fundamentals begins this complex and creative investigation by introducing the basics of using movement meditation as a means to ground, and explore the physical energies of our sexual energy.

Humans Being:

Humans Being is one of my favourite workshops combining two of my great passions, movement and theatre. Bringing our own creativity, heart and imagination into play, it will be an exploration, shaping what we find in ourselves in order to give it away to the magical empty space that is theatre. Theatre -  Its essence is presence – it’s magic is Spirit in a myriad of forms.

DIVING INTO THE WAVE

Diving Into The Wave is an ongoing group running for 5 weekends from March to October 2012 in Athens and Thessaloniki.

It will be a deep and committed study of the 5 Rhythms® moving meditation map. Each weekend will focus on a particular Rhythm and its teachings offering us the chance to drop deeper and wider into who we are and how our energy moves through us.

Diving Into The Wave will offer us the chance to sink into the rooted, fluid, extraordinary balance of who we are as human beings through the profound and simple map of the 5 Rhythms®.

An ongoing group like this is one of my favourite ways of working. It can offer the potential for deep change and awareness of how we function, where we move fluidly and where we can get a little stuck.

It gives us time and space to move the teachings into all aspects of our lives - our relationships, our work, our creative expression - and to keep coming back to the support of the commitment you have made, to yourself, your practice and to your companions.

Through the moving meditation practice of the 5 Rhythms® and the structure and support of a closed group we will explore many aspects of how it is to be in this human body of ours.

You are invited and encouraged to do all of the modules as the year's journey from Flowing to Stillness is a complete cycle in itself.

It is also possible to participate in individual weekends and not do all of them.

This workshop is suitable for all.

Dancing With Fire (5R)

Each of the Rhythms is associated with an element, this workshop explores the element of fire and its relationship to the rhythm of Staccato.

Using the dancing map of the 5 Rhythms®: Flowing, Staccato, Chaos, Lyrical and Stillness we will explore how the energy of fire and Staccato moves in each of us.

Flowing - how it glows and warms

Staccato - how it flickers, sparks and connects

Chaos - how it heats and purifies

Lyrical - how it creates and is a light, a beacon

Stillness - how it heals

We will look at how we say yes, how we say no and how we can use the practice and fluidity of the 5 Rhythms® map to move and communicate from our hearts - All teachings very specific to the rhythm of Staccato.

This workshop is suitable for beginners and old timers alike.

Dancing with the Ancestors (SP)

With Chris Lüttichau & Cathy Ryan

This workshop takes participants on a dance journey into the realm of shamanism where you will learn to contact your ancestors, establishing a mutual link that benefits both you and them. This opens a door to receiving back-up and guidance, and to learning about who you are on deeper levels, empowering yourself. Over time this work can bring about profound healing.

Gifts, strengths and talents are given to each individual from the ancestors. These endowments are often passed down and run in the family. But the same is true for dysfunctional patterns, causing problems and suffering in the individual and the family. This workshop offers you tools on how to acknowledge and develop the gifts and talents, as well as how to break the dysfunctional patterns, so that we can set ourselves free. In doing so we can free in turn the next generations.

These ancient teachings allow you to work with your roots to heal the past and step forward unchained into the present, trusting the future. You will come to realize that your ancestors are very close to you, offering help, protection and guidance.

You will receive authentic shamanic teachings and then ground them in movement as a way to embody and understand them on a cellular level.

ELEMENTALS (5R)

The 5 Rhythms® map is a dynamic moving meditation, exploring and sifting through how and what it is to be a human in these bodies of ours.

Through practicing the 5 Rhythms®, moving through the 5 archetypal landscapes of Flowing, Staccato, Chaos, Lyrical and Stillness we are calling in the natural fluidity of ourselves as human beings though an exploration of how each of our bodies moves.

Over this weekend we will be specifically looking at the relationship of each of the Rhythms to the elements of Earth, Air, Fire, Water and Ether and how that awareness moves in our bodies.

This workshop is suitable for all old timers and beginners alike.

Footsteps In the Sky (OF)

How do we keep our feet on the ground and reach for the stars?

How do we stay with our relational selves and stretch to the skies?

How do we dream deep and stay awake?

How do we taste unity with Spirit and stay embodied?

Using the Open Floor 4x4 weave we will take a look at these questions together, moving and enquiring, rooting in the moving body, heart, mind and soul

We will take an in depth look at the 4 relational hungers of Solitude, Connection, Belonging and Spirit within the Open Floor map. Using a series of physical anchors in the body and an exploration of some of our core movement resources such as grounding, dissolving, expanding and contracting, activating and settling, towards and away…we will invite the wisdom of our emotional intelligence and bodies, minds and spirit to expand our sense of being.

Everyone is welcome…

GATEWAYS (5R)

This ongoing group is a chance to dive deeper into the teachings of the 5 Rhythms® over a period of time together with the same gathering of people.

The 5 Rhythms® wave moves us through the energies of Flowing Staccato Chaos Lyrical Stillness. Each Rhythm is a gateway to an essence of who we are, An exploration of how it is to be here in our human bodies.

Flowing; beginning our exploration through feet, body and breath. A moving of the self and our connection to the turning of the earth.

Staccato; moving into the pulse and beat of our bones, our hips and our definition. Shifting into relationships, the other.

Chaos; melding our flow and staccato, releasing our heads and surrendering to the beat of our own inherent creativity and being, held in community.

Lyrical; moving up and out, into the space and breath of being alive, being who you are, your own individual self, feeling your place in the scheme of things.

Stillness; exploring the possibilities of coming to a moving point of deep awareness and awakeness. an awareness and presence to the sense of being at the centre of your self, open and balanced to the world around you.

Each Gateways group will work with a particular theme or exploration over our time together.

Ground Floor Lab (OF)

Ground Floor Labs with Open Floor Founding Members.

We'll explore the Open Floor curriculum and values, and provide a week of engagement with other seasoned colleagues.

This is also open to people with extensive movement experience who are interested in future teacher training in Open Floor Movement Practice.

HEART ART (5R)

The Heartbeat map takes us deeper into the heart of the 5 Rhythms® practice, moving our bodies, our emotions start to move as well.
In this landscape of the map we actively engage in an exploration of how the emotions of fear, anger, sadness, joy and compassion move, sometimes not so fluidly, in us.
We begin to understand how we're responding to our feelings, thus giving us the potential for having more choice in our behavioural patterns.
We listen to the body, each other - we invite ourselves to pay attention to the amount of life force and energy that may be available to us as we turn our consciousness to these emotional realms and how they move.

Through the 5 Rhythms® this workshop opens up the possibilities of:

Flowing - unearthing the energy available to us in the landscape of how our fear moves through us

Staccato - stoking and harnessing the potential of clarity and strength in our anger

Chaos - unlocking and releasing the cleansing vulnerability of our grief

Lyrical - exploring and expanding around our enormous capacity for joy

Stillness - finding a moving balance through the whole body of ourselves as alive, moving, creating, feeling people - opening to our ability to move and feel compassion, both for ourselves and others, in this journey here as human beings.

At least 10 hours of waves practice with a qualified teacher is required for a Heartbeat workshop.

HEART TO HEART (5R)

'Love is the great Work
Though every Heart is first an Apprentice'
Hafiz

What is it to love?

How is it to be in this extraordinary body and heart of ours and love?
What does our emotional landscape teach us about loving?

Where are our emotions fluid, where do we get stuck?

These are some of the questions we will be moving and exploring on this Heartbeat workshop together.

Through the 5 Rhythms® map and with each other we will explore
some of the movement and teachings of our emotional landscapes -
Fear Anger Sadness Joy and Compassion

To move to feel to release to relate to be - to love
This will be our dance together.

A minimum of 10 hours practice with an accredited teacher is required for this workshop.

HEART TRAVELS (5R)

What is it to be a human? To move to feel to relate to create to love?

The Heartbeat map takes us deeper into the heart of the 5 Rhythms practice. Moving our bodies, our emotions start to move as well whether we are aware of them or not.

What happens? What goes on?

Mining and moving the wisdom of the body we start to wake up to the presence of our emotions. Each rhythm is a landscape to explore the particular essence of an emotion:

Fear in Flowing
Anger in Staccato
Sadness in chaos
Joy in Lyrical
Compassion in stillness

We become aware of the nature of how these emotions appear in our lives, how they serve us and when we get ourselves in a tangle with them.
Becoming aware of how our emotions move through us, we begin to understand how wer'e responding to our feelings and the more choices we have in our behavioural patterns, the more fluidity and grace to be the creative and extraordinary creatures that we are.

At least 10 hours of waves practice with a qualified teacher is required for a Heartbeat workshop.

HUMANS BEING (OF)

Humans Being is one of my favourite workshops combining two of my great passions, embodied movement practice and theatre.

This combination is a powerful formula to explore and stand in the presence of who we are in a particular moment.
Through Open Floor movement practice, a range of theatre exercises and games, we will put together a piece of theatre ready to share with each other.

Bringing our own creativity, heart and imagination into play, it will be an exploration, shaping what we find in ourselves in order to give it away to the magical empty space that is theatre.

Theatre has been around as long as dance and in its essence is another sacred space for us to witness and experience different aspects of our humaness, aspects that can surprise us, move us, unite us - aspects that can wake us up, make us laugh, cry, wince, occasionally touch open our innermost knowings and longings.
its essence is presence - rooted in the body, the physical container of who we are.

I am especially interested in the simplicity of what we can uncover and make into theatre - no special effects, no diva performances..

Libido Fundamentals (OF)

"As our hearts and bodies awaken through the movement meditation practice, our sexual energy also begins to stir. On the dance floor, we may feel juicy, radiant, and desirable one moment and feel guilty, awkward, and shy in the next. We may feel overwhelmed by our own experience - or by the sexual energies around us – or feel flat, disconnected, or just plain left out.

Our generative, sexual energy - our Libido - is an essential part of our body’s natural expression, complicated one moment, ecstatic the next; absent or burdened with expectations of past experiences, this energy within and between us comes to the dance longing for freedom.

Libido Fundamentals begins this complex and creative investigation by introducing the basics of using movement meditation as a means to ground, and explore the physical energies of our sexual energy.Because sexuality is so often underground, ignored, or unconsciously acted out, the exploration of this territory tends to be intense, liberating, intimate and powerful. The potential pleasure and beauty of this journey is well worth the challenges and the risks." A. Juhan

Libido Fundamentals is a prerequisite for the Open Floor Teacher Training and for the ongoing Libido group lead by Andrea Juhan

Mask (OF)

This is an Art in Motion workshop

Masks are fascinating, there is often an emphasis on how we use masks to hide and there is another rich and potent aspect to Mask work - how we reveal parts of ourselves through the power of creativity, movement and the wearing of a self created mask. There is something that can happen, emerge and release in the wearing of and inhabiting a mask that gives us another layer of insight into who we are.

In this workshop you will be making and using a mask to reveal a previously unknown aspect of self.

Illuminating through personal creativity and movement a possibly hidden quality, character or dimension of yourself. Embodying it, and meeting yourself, and others in a new way.

We will move alongside the map of Open Floor movement practice as well as being informed by Movement Medicine, Theatre and the Arts

Nuts, Bolts and Stars (OF)

Travels into Trance

Prayer

Heart Matters

Play

Prayer

Five weekends of working with the nuts and bolts of who we are – thoughts and stories, feelings, physicality and spirit. No matter what’s going on, what puzzles and difficulties we get into in ourselves, there is still space for us to dance and move for others, our families, friends, not so friends, the earth and this world we live in.

Nuts, Bolts and Stars will be a combination of tine to look at our individual selves and stories and time to dance and move together in ceremony through the night…

Travels Into Trance will follow our movement patterns as we work with polarities and paradox, coming to a place of pure presence which is neither here nor there, only now

Heart Matters will look at the life force and energy stored in our emotional field, explore and look at harnessing them – whatever flavour they are

Play will call on our imagination, soul and creativity to connect and offer parts of who we are through theatre and writing – no experience required….only presence;)

Prayer will intersperse our work with the nuts and bolts of who we are over our time together. As above, the second and final weekend will centre around an all night ceremony to offer a sense of gratitude out into the world, to meditate, witness, dance and rest a space for a collective healing energy to build between us

One of a Kind (OF)

"It doesn’t matter if you paint, perform, write or dance badly, as long as you don’t do it badly like anyone else."

While we earnestly search for our authentic self, the jewel is always right here, right now. In rare moments of grace - when we shed notions of who or how we think we should be - we stand in all our brilliant, original, one-of-a-kindness.

One of a Kind is a long weekend of “deep fun,” a workshop where, in the spirit of spontaneity and self-expression, we become ever more grace prone.

Through the marriage of movement, dance, theatre exercises, and effortless writing adventures, we’ll mine our longings, stories, tenderness and intelligence. We’ll share the raw to the elegant, the sublime to the ridiculous.

All forms of art are doorways to depth, regardless of skill or shyness. When we make magical messes what emerges is our humanness. As Lori is fond of saying: “It isn’t necessarily pretty, but it’s always beautiful.”

With their combined decades of teaching movement, theatre and writing, Cathy and Lori create a lively, sacred space to witness and enjoy ourselves and each other.

Requirements: At least 3 of the following: a history, a number of heartbreaks, hips, high hopes, horrible romances, happy secrets.

Prayer Ongoing Closed Group (OF)

What is it to pray?

To be still

To do nothing and receive

To be aware

To be grateful

To be wild

To be ravaged apart

To call from our deepest self

To listen

To have compassion

To fall over

To get up again

To laugh

To dance

To rage against the machine

To witness

To be witnessed

To be kind

To love and be loved

To rest in movement and dance in stillness

To rest upon the earth

To know the fire of the sun

To surrender to the waters  that wash us through

This ongoing group is an invitation to move with a call from the heart, through the body and mind to our wild spirit and the source of our connection to our vitality, life force and the world around us.

Using the Open Floor curriculum we will work and play with a range of physical, emotional and mindful anchors or tools from which to explore our moving selves and our connections to the environment.

  • Module 1 – the basic hunger for solitude and our relationship to the element of earth
  • Module 2 – the basic hunger for connection and our relationship to the element of fire
  • Module 3 – the basic hunger for belonging and our relationship to the element of water
  • Module 4  – the basic hunger for spirit and our relationship to the element of air
  • Module 5 -  We will spend our final module resting in movement with the completion of our journey together and some time in ceremony

We will explore together in community the movement and connection possible as we travel from fixed to fluid, calling on the embodiment of our wild, natural, relational selves, at home and aware of the natural environment we find ourselves in – this body, heart, mind and life force of ours.

Closed ongoing groups are my favourite way of working, I love how we sink through many levels together and travel with the same people through a very particular landscape, it builds strong community and a circle of trust and courage…

Our exploration will be supported by dynamic movement to all kinds of music, inquiries, reflection and simple awareness meditation.

This group counts for pre requisite hours towards the Open Floor International teacher training

ROOTS (5R)

Roots is an ongoing group running for 5 residential weekends from Mar to Nov 2012 in Dunderry Park, Navan, Co Meath, Ireland.

It will be a deep and committed study of  the 5 Rhythms® moving meditation map. Each weekend will focus on a particular Rhythm and its teachings, offering us the chance to drop deeper and wider into who we are and how our energy moves through us.
Roots will offer us the chance to sink into the rooted, fluid, extraordinary balance of who we are as human beings through the profound and simple map of the 5 Rhythms®.

A committed ongoing group like this can offer the potential for deep change and awareness of how we function, where we move fluidly and where we can get a little stuck.

It gives us time and space to move the teachings into all aspects of our lives – our relationships, our work, our creative expression – and to keep coming back to the support of the commitment you have made, to yourself, your practice and to your companions.
Through the moving meditation practice of the 5 Rhythms® and the structure and support of a closed group we will explore many aspects of how it is to be in this human body of ours.

For all of our time together we will be in the beautiful residential venue of Dunderry Park. Freshly cooked vegetarian food and beautiful surroundings will help to hold us in our work together.

Whilst this work is deeply therapeutic it is not in itself therapy.

You are strongly encouraged to make sure you have the support you may need outside the group during our time together.

For bookings please contact Medbh or Sarah at crdanceireland@gmail.com

Relation Ship (OF)

                                                   Relation Ship, A Triptych

This series of three connected workshops will take a different focus each module on the magic, mystery and ordinary beauty of our ability for relationship with each other. Our time together will focus on our capacity to embody and feel a sense of intimacy, our capacity to inhabit and embody the innocence and power of our Libidic energy – our life force and sexual energy – and our capacity for moments of true presence and being.

The first weekend will focus on Intimacy – what is it? What is the emotional intelligence available to us here? What are the ways we can embody an alive, vulnerable, open and powerful sense of ourselves in relation to others?

The second weekend will focus on the movement of our sexual energy and creative life force. How do we ground and embody this primal energy that is every person’s birth right? How do we embody our extraordinary minds full of stories, longing, dreams and memories around our Libido?

The third weekend will see us entering further the exploration of being present in relationship – to ourselves, each other and the wider field of our communities and our sense of Spirit.

As we set sail together we will use the map of the Open Floor Movement Practice, opening up the 4 dimensions of embodiment on our journey – Physical, Emotional, Mind and Soul. An exploration of the 4 relational Hungers of Solitude, Connection, Belonging and Spirit will thread their way through each weekend and we will work with the Window of Presence throughout, mapping and gauging when it can become difficult to stay present with ourselves.

This work offers deep exploration of parts of who we are as humans, opening up possibilities for change, acceptance and moments of deep joy and gratitude for being alive.

Prepare for all kinds of weather on our ship! Chances are you’ll be in excellent company with a fine map to help steer us through what may come our way…

SHADOWLANDS

Shadowlands explores the places where our fluidity and ability to be present and awake to the movement of our bodies becomes heavy, tense, distracted, spaced out.

Each Rhythm, Flowing, Staccato, Chaos, Lyrical and Stillness has its own flavour of resistance to fluid embodied present movement.

This weekend workshop will be a journey and exploration through the landscapes of the 5 Rhythms® including their shadows.

I love working with the shadows, calling attention to them, witnessing them and exploring their movement is a liberating, tender and often humorous journey.

This workshop is suitable for people with a least some experience of the Wave with an accredited teacher.

Shamanic Empowerment Dance (ND)

Over the course of this weekend Chris Luttichau and Cathy Ryan will offer inspirational teachings, including movement, music and journeying, on the Medicine Wheel: an ancient universal symbol depicted as a circle, with a centre and the cross of the four directions.

The words Medicine Wheel are a Native American Indian term for a design that was often, and still is to this day, constructed with stones laid on the ground to create a ritual space for healing, teaching, initiation and other ceremonies. On another level, the Medicine Wheel, or the Sacred Hoop, is a mystery that can teach us about the universe, the cosmos, who we are, how to live, and our place in creation.

While studying in the Americas Chris was given a large body of teachings about the Medicine Wheel, and some of them will form a foundation for this workshop.

We will look at seven aspects of the Sacred Hoop, the seven basic directions. Knowledge will be shared about each one of them, and we will then integrate them through movement, journeying and music.

We will explore and express the seven directions in seven different dances:
The Four Shields Dance: Put simply, the Four Shields are the four directions, East, South, West and North, in their human manifestations. Each shield has specific qualities that will be unfolded, helping participants to awaken these powers within themselves.

The Sky Dance is the expression of Sun and Spirit.

The Earth Dance represents Mother Earth, our home and physical reality.

The Power Animal Dance: We will spend time journeying with our power animal in movement. There will also be space to establish your relationship with your power animal if you don't know yet what that means for you.

The combination of receiving these authentic ancient teachings, and then grounding them in movement, is a rich way to embody and understand them on a cellular level. The teachings of the Medicine Wheel are a path to your own centre, strength and balance.

Shame and Beauty (OF)

                                               Shame and Beauty

An Open Floor Triptych with Cathy Ryan

Mod 1:  Every Light casts a Shadow

 Mod 2:  What A Shame

 Mod 3:  Once upon a time…

This ongoing group will be an exploration and travel into the terrain of toxic shame and the hold it can have on us on a cellular level. The voice that says something is wrong with you, hide, stay back…It can be a strong voice and can block the expression of our life force, creativity and our capacity for compassion – both for ourselves and others.

The good news about this journey is that in amongst the shadows and layers and holding back are diamonds of beauty, talent, joy and compassion. Through the movement practice of Open Floor, a combination of deep enquiry and deep dancing we will travel through this terrain together looking to open up wider and clearer landscapes of our innate goodness.

Mod 1: Every Light casts a Shadow

This first weekend we will gather together as a group, opening up to our embodied physical and emotional presence through the 4 Hungers of Solitude, Connection, Belonging and Spirit – where do we allow these energies to flow through us and where can they get stuck? Opening up the ground for a closer look at the impact of toxic shame in our lives..

Mod 2: What A Shame

This weekend we will dive into a particular and focused exploration of our own individual pockets of shame.Toxic shame is one of the places that leads us into disconnect – with ourselves, each other and our full place in the world around us. The shame that whispers, there’s something wrong with you – hide!  We will look at how shame can contract, harden and stagnate our life force, so our joy has no place to go and our compassion shuts down – We will look at the antidotes available to us – there are at least three!

Mod 3: Once upon a Time…

Our final weekend together…we will follow up some of what has moved or not moved since Mod 2. Take a look at some of the stories and feelings that make up the web of who we are. Perhaps there are some stories that can be retold…

Our body of work will be held by Open Floor Movement practice, working with 4 dimensions of embodiment, the 4 hungers and  basic, core movement resources that we can explore, study and dance deep with.

All hours count as pre requisites for the Open Floor teacher training programme

Solstice (ND)

Midsummer, the nights are light and long, the dreaming is rich

The land is alive and there is movement everywhere

We invite you to join us in an all night ceremony

Expanding our dance and movement throughout the night

Turning a carousel of movement, witnessing, resting and meditating

We will move together throughout the night and into the morning

Listening for what is alive in us, whispers in the middle of the night…

Listening for what is bright and moving with the expansion of the Midsummer fire, Listening for what we can give thanks for and call in as we move towards

THE WILD HEART (OF)

This workshop will be a moving exploration of the emotional landscape both known and unknown, of our wild and tender hearts.
'Wild; of an animal (read human...) or plant living or growing in a natural environment...'
Using Open Floor Movement Practice  we will explore the notion of the landscape of our moving body and feeling heart as our natural environment.

Sometime our hearts don't feel so wild at all - wild in the sense of our natural life force that feels and lives and loves, jumps, walks, flies into the unknown of life.
Our emotions can get a little or a lot stuck, blocking us from heartful relationship with each other and the world around us. We close down, step away, turn away from our longing to love, connect and be.
This work invites us to move into and explore the shadows, teachings and gifts of our emotional landscapes.
Inviting movement and fluidity around these powerful teachers.
Inviting us to stay rooted and embodied as they move through us, calling us into this wild and extraordinary adventure of being a Human Being.

THE WILD JOYS OF LIVING (5R)

On this weekend through the 5 Rhythms® Heartbeat map we will explore the landscape and emotion of Joy together.
There is something about the journey through who we are and how we feel, moving through the good the bad and the ugly that is the foundation for the profound and rich field that is our capacity for deep Joy.

Getting to know and moving with and through how we experience the emotions of Fear, Anger and Sadness can lead us to a heartfelt understanding of Joy.  A gratitude for being alive – for having made it this far! The gratitude for what life has to teach us, the easy and the not so easy stuff.

Joy is where we can shine through as our vibrant delicate strong selves with very little effort.
Expanding our body heart mind and soul into Compassion and into the awake alive presence of Stillness.
Calling on the Rhythm of Lyrical to see us through our Heartbeat together, we see and are seen: 'Seeing something is forgetting the name of what you see'.

A minimum of 10 hours practice with an accredited teacher is required for this workshop.

TRAVELS INTO TRANCE (OF)

Form and Formlessness

Shape and shape shifting

Matter and Molecules

Through moving and traveling with the Open Floor map and the key movement principles and polarities of Grounding and Dissolving, Expanding and Contracting, we will explore how we can expand into a lightness of being, journeying through the physical patterns  and movements that come through our body again and again. Inviting a dance of fluidity and the understanding that everything changes.

Trance is deep focus on one thing, staying with it and embodying a fuller understanding of what that focus may be communicating to us.

We will dance together, talk together and be together, staying with what arises, letting it go and offering it to the intelligence of the moving body.

This workshop is suitable for all.

The Floor Is Open - Who's at the Door? (OF)

This workshop is an introduction to the Embodied Movement Practice that is Open Floor

Using a set of physical, emotional and mindful anchors or tools from which to explore our moving selves, we open the Floor to see what we find out about ourselves as moving, relational, creative beings.

Who’s At The Door?

What’s around the corner?

What’s next? That we may not have any control over?

Often these places in our lives are accompanied by the feeling of Fear, whether we’re aware of it or not.

Fear can have many flavours, textures, qualities, ranging from slightly nervous to delicious excitement to outright terror.
It can be a beautiful teacher to wake us up, reminding us to really inhabit this body of ours.

Our exploration will be supported by dynamic movement to all kinds of music, inquiries, reflection and simple awareness meditation practice.

You are welcome, come as you are…

The Floor is Open - Still Point (OF)

This workshop will be a space to focus on a sense of a moving, mindful, awareness of the present moment

During our time together we will have time to drop in and appreciate what we find here and now in movement, travelling through the layers of ourselves towards our Still Point.

How am I? Who am I? Where am I? What’s happening now?

Asking these questions through the dance, through the moving body of Open Floor Movement Practice, this is an opportunity to find a balance, a unity within ourselves and the environment around us, a sense of awake, alive presence, a sense of  dynamic stillness.

The Mask and the Body (OF)

The Mask and The Body

This Open Floor Art in Motion workshop will work with the mystery and magic of pure presence

We will embody, play and move with some of the Core Movement Resources, the 4 Hungers and Dimensions of Embodiment…All to support us coming to a place of awake presence where some of the natural states of being human can move and be expressed

We will work with the Neutral Mask, a simple expressionless white mask that invites the mover to experience a state of pure and physical presence, calmness and openness to space…a state where we can access archetypal stories and truths, open into a web of connection and empathy with each other

We will see what happens as we play…what rises and falls, what listens, takes action, what rests and what opens

Humans being are welcome…

The Wild Hungers (OF)

This ongoing group will be an in depth exploration of ourselves as 100% relational human beings. No matter who we are, where we come from or where we end up, we are in relationship to our surroundings as well as the people in our lives that we have or have had connection with.

How does that move in us? Where does it block us? Where does it make us soar?

Through Open Floor movement practice we will look at these questions through the moving embodiment of four basic hungers or aspects of relationship:

The Hunger for Solitude and relationship to self

The Hunger for Connection and relationship to another

The Hunger for Belonging and relationship to group

The Hunger for Spirit and relationship to source

Calling ourselves through movement and using the baseline 4x4 structure of Open Floor Movement practice we will weave the four Hungers with four paths of Embodiment: Sensate awareness, Emotional intelligence, Imaginative mindfulness and Presence to travel through these landscapes of relationship.

This group counts for pre requisite hours towards the Open Floor International teacher training.

Voyages

This ongoing Heartbeat group will be a journey through the emotional landscape of who we are and who we can be as human beings.

Using the simple and profound map of the 5 Rhythms®, Flowing, Staccato, Chaos, Lyrical and Stillness we will embark on a committed journey together over 5
months.

The 5 Rhythms® will guide us through the teachings and offerings of five archetypal emotional fields, Fear, Anger, Sadness, Joy and Compassion.

Our map will be the 5 Rhythms®
Our compass will be where our curiosity and our moving bodies take us, tracking, exploring...
Our destination will be into both the known and unknown terrain of our hearts, our emotional intelligence, our intuition
Our companions will be a gathering of dancing warriors, stepping into the adventure of living and loving, the unknown of being alive

Each weekend will see us ground ourselves in the fundamental Waves and Body Parts meditations to hold us in our explorations
Each weekend will focus on a particular Rhythm, a particular emotional field

Flowing, the rhythm that invites us to land deep inside our bodies, its earth, its continuous momentum of movement
In the rhythm of Flowing we will open up our movement to the exploration of Fear.

Staccato, we move into the shape of who we are, our hearts, how we communicate - the tender fire of learning how to love
In this map, Staccato opens up the exploration of the teacher of Anger in our lives.

Chaos, we soften into the merging of Flowing and Staccato, letting go into the movement that emerges, its fluidity
it's unpredictability. The emotional teacher here is Sadness, we will invite ourselves to let go into the wash and teachings of what it can bring our way,

Lyrical, expanding into our lightness of being, continuing our travels into the spaces around us, inside us, above us,
following, following what is alive and everchanging - the emotional teacher here is Joy.

Stillness, we move towards the centre of this practice - awake, moving and breathing from the inside out, in balance with our own self, in awareness of
what's around us and our relationship to it - the whole lot. In this landscape we move with the emotional teacher of Compassion, what is it to move with empathy?
With love?

This will be a closed group for the duration of the five modules. Commitment is required for the whole course.

WHAT A SHAME (OF)

We are extraordinary creatures, full of emotions, thoughts, creativity, movement, love, longing and sticky bits of mess…places where we get stuck with the free flow of being who we are.

Where we can get stuck in being with ourselves and each other with a compassionate listening heart.

Toxic shame is one of the places that leads us into disconnect – with ourselves,  each other and our full place in the world around us. The shame that whispers, there’s something wrong with you – hide!

We will look at how shame can contract, harden and stagnate our life force, so our joy has no place to go and our compassion shuts down – these things happen, it's part of being human.

Usually we do try to hide when this happens to us – and shame comes along. We hide , we don't trust that we will still be accepted and loved, we try to cover up when we get a bit messy, shut down.
Conscious of negative behaviour, conscious of hiding and feeling stuck with it – we can feel shame.

Using a combination of Open Floor Movement Practice, enquiry, witnessing and reflection, we will explore the role of shame in our emotional landscapes.
We will invite the mover in us to open up to the flow of who we are, unravel some of the places we get stuck or hide in.
Paradoxically, often when we move what it is we're hiding, who we are warts and all, it brings us straight into connection with others -
We show our vulnerability and we begin to see each other and recognise ordinary and extraordinary, tender, vital parts of ourselves.

Cathy’s strength as a teacher is her ability to be completely present wherever she is and respond authentically to whatever and whoever is in the room with her. She creates a refreshingly non-judgmental, unsentimental, open space where people can discover themselves, others and the juiciness of the world around them. "

Who's At The Door (OF)

WHO'S AT THE DOOR

Who’s At The Door?

What’s around the corner?

What’s next?...

that we can’t see, can’t necessarily know, may not have any control over…
Often these places in our lives are accompanied by the feeling of Fear, whether we’re aware of it or not.

Fear can have many flavours, textures, qualities, ranging from slightly nervous to delicious excitement to outright terror.
It can be a beautiful teacher to wake us up, reminding us to really inhabit this body of ours.

Using the Heartbeat map of the 5 Rhythms® we will explore different aspects of how Fear can move through us and where it can get stuck.
We will move with it through the landscapes of Anger, Sadness, Joy and Compassion, through the Rhythms of Flowing, Staccato, Chaos, Lyrical and Stillness.

A minimum of 10 hours practice with an accredited teacher is required
for this workshop.

Wild Prayer (OF)

This workshop is an opening to the Embodied Movement Practice that is Open Floor.

Using a set of physical, emotional and mindful anchors or tools from which to explore our moving selves we open the floor to see what we find out about ourselves as moving, relational, creative beings.

We will explore the movement of our Wild Prayer.

Wild Prayer – a call from the heart, through the body and mind to our wild spirit and the source of our connection to an all encompassing sense of mystery and life force.

‘Wild; of an animal (read human…) or plant living or growing in a natural environment.’

This moving body of ours is our natural environment, our heart, our mind;

What is the call that runs through it?

What clues do our longings give us about who we are?

What can we say thank you for?

Why do our Wild Prayers matter?

Our exploration will be supported by dynamic movement with a variety of music, enquiries, reflection and simple awareness meditation practice.
